Avoid mistakes when painting | Tips for a perfect result
Painting is a much easier and more fun activity than you think if you know how to avoid some mistakes. Here is a list of the most common ones:
1. Choosing the wrong color
Finishing painting your wall and realizing you’ve chosen the wrong paint color is a nightmare you can avoid entirely. Be sure to test the color with our easy-to-stick, peel-and-stick swatches and test the color in the corners to fully appreciate its three-dimensionality.
2. Don't test the color under all possible lights
It is essential to test the paint color in different areas of the room and at different times of the day to ensure that the effect is pleasing in all cases. The same paint can look significantly different in different lighting so this is an essential step to avoid surprises when the sun goes down.
3. Don't clean the baseboards
Giving your walls and baseboards a quick wipe down before you start painting can make a big difference. Any dirt or debris left on the walls will eventually mix with the paint as you work and spread across the surface. Spend a couple of minutes wiping down the surface and you’ll save yourself this annoying situation.
4. Don't use tape
Using tape will ensure clean lines. Make sure to seal it well using a squeegee to get extra firm pressure. It is important to remove the tape while the paint is still wet.
5. Do not use fabric sheets
Always opt for fabric sheets, plastic sheets are slippery and can stay wet for too long, risking creating unexpected marks on the floor of the house. On the contrary, the canvas is non-slip, absorbs splashes and, importantly, is not plastic.
6. Save on color
Make sure the roller is well soaked but not dripping and you will have just the right amount of paint to make the roller slide smoothly without ever having to apply too much pressure.
7. Don't buy high quality materials
Buying low-quality materials is probably one of the biggest mistakes people make. Using high-quality brushes and tools is the secret to getting a perfect finish.
8. Don't buy quality paint
Just like with supplies, you need high-quality paint to achieve great results on your project.
